This is a new part of my website. It is a blog, a rambling section, an area where I will periodically publish a piece of music and write about it.
The first song that I am featuring is called “Release”. I wrote it this summer and the video is taken from a live performance at The Pound Arts Centre in Corsham in October 2015 – the sound recording is a bit rough but then this a take it as you find it blog, not an album recording…
At the start of this year I found myself quiet with music. My band “The Home Fires” was temporarily dormant due to personal circumstances when I had a flurry of song writing on the piano. Whilst historically, my piano-based tunes are quite ‘down’ and melancholy, recently I felt a new energy in the music I was writing. I decided that I really needed a percussionist to bring rhythm to the songs that I heard in my head and contacted Weasel Howlett to see if he could help work on my new material.
He agreed and we jammed. The piano and drums clicked straight away and within a few rehearsals we had a lovely live set forming which we aired in public a few times over the summer. “Release” is an energetic composition born from the fresh release of energy that I have felt towards my music this year. It has been exciting to play with such a talented percussionist and drummer and I am looking forward to future adventures in music with Weasel. I am also grateful to my old friend Bethany Porter for joining us on the cello during the live performance that I have featured.
I have come to a realisation this year that has led me to start this blog. We live once. A short life. A quick burst of energy on this planet. And then we are gone. I have a brief window of opportunity to express the musical side of my life and then the door will slam shut. So, using the means accessible to me I am going to share my thoughts, ramblings and music through this website. It is a way to reach out to old friends, fans and complete strangers scattered around this little old planet of ours.
I would love to hear you feedback so feel free to email me at email@example.com. I will announce the publishing of my blog posts through my facebook page www.facebook.com/willlawtonmusic and my twitter @willlawtonmusic – so please follow me on these online portholes if you wish to be notified about my news.
I hope you enjoy this first post and my future writings….
